The Laboratory and Intelligence Team (LIT) supports Member States in strengthening national capacities for building stronger and sustainable health intelligence systems – systematic collection, analysis, interpretation and dissemination of diverse health data – to better prevent, detect and respond to infectious diseases and to strengthen the prevention, control and management of noncommunicable diseases.
This is accomplished by:
- Strengthening governance, leadership, and national ownership of public health systems, including support for developing evidence-based national policies grounded in equity and human rights;
- Transforming communicable and noncommunicable disease surveillance systems into integrated, sustainable and country-owned platforms;
- Driving collaboration with countries and partners to ensure that regional and national strategies are implemented, progress is monitored and evaluated, and systems can adapt to evolving public-health dynamics to better control communicable and noncommunicable diseases and improve population health.
