The Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (MCH) team supports Member States in strengthening people-centred, evidence-based maternal, newborn and child health services, with particular focus on countries with a high burden of maternal and newborn mortality.

This is accomplished by:

  • Strengthening national, subnational and facility-level capacity to improve quality of care across the maternal, newborn and child health continuum
  • Supporting scale-up of evidence-based interventions, including Early Essential Newborn Care, Kangaroo Mother Care, and quality maternal and newborn services
  • Enhancing maternal and perinatal death surveillance and response systems to inform continuous quality improvement and reduce preventable deaths
